Police confirm Arise TV anchor jumped from 3rd floor apartment during robbery attack

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has shed light on the death of Arise News correspondent, Somtochukwu Maduagwu.

The 29-year-old new anchor died in an armed robbery incident at her residence on Monday.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, said in an interview on Arise TV on Wednesday that the journalist died after she leapt from the top floor of her Katampe apartment during the incident.

The clarification followed earlier reports suggesting Somtochukwu’s death was caused by alleged negligence at Maitama General Hospital, where she was rushed to after the incident.

According to the CP, the deceased was discovered unconscious at the scene and immediately rushed to the hospital.

He said: “Policemen moved to the scene and found her lying unconscious. She was immediately taken to Maitama General Hospital, where doctors tried to resuscitate her using CPR, but sadly, she could not make it.”

Detailing how the attack unfolded, Adewale explained that the robbers struck at Unique Apartment, a three-storey twin building with 18 flats, situated around the Gishiri axis of Katampe, under Mabushi Division.

“Some unknown armed robbers gained access to Unique Apartments, where Sommie lived. Two private security guards were on duty. One of them, who dared to challenge the robbers, sustained a gunshot injury. In the panic that followed, Sommie, who lived on the topmost floor of the building, jumped down from the third storey. The consequences were tragic and very unfortunate,” he stated.
