2027: David Mark, Atiku, Amaechi, others resolve to remain in ADC

Chieftains of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) rose from a national caucus meeting on Thursday night with a resolve to rest the All Democratic Alliance (ADA).

National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, disclosed this to journalists at the end of the meeting held in Abuja.

The ADA linked to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and certain chieftains of the ADC was one of the 14 associations seeking to be registered as political parties that scaled the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) hurdles for recognition as political parties.

Further checks revealed that Atiku Abubakar and others might have resolved to jettison the movement to ADA following the INEC recent decisions to accord recognition to Senator David Mark, interim executive of the ADC.

Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi said the ADC leaders were no longer interested in pushing for the registration of ADA.

He said: “The Coalition has rested everything concerning the ADA. That means, they are not interested in the registration or otherwise of the association.”

The ADC National Caucus equally resolved that politicians who have openly identified with the party must resign from membership in other political parties.

“Thought final order has been given to all members to resign membership of other political parties, the Caucus was silent on the timeline,” Abdullahi told journalists.

Reports said that, while former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi attended meetings of ADC and was present at the inauguration of the David Mark executive, he had since opened discussions with certain leaders of the erstwhile ruling party, the Peoples’ Democratic Party.

The meeting also mandated the party National Working Committee to announce dates for Osun and Èkìtì for election of candidates for the off-cycle governorship elections.

In attendance at Thursday meeting were National Chairman, David Mark; former Vice President Atiku Abubakar; National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola and former Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai.
Also in attendance were former Governor of Sokoto State, Senator Aminu Tambuwal and former Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Amaechi.

Peter Obi was, however, not at the meeting.

The ADC National Publicity Secretary also disclosed that “all the presidential aspirants have agreed to support whoever wins the primary election.”
