The Lagos State Government has issued traders at Computer Village in Ikeja an 18-month deadline to relocate to the new market site at Katangowa in the Agbado/Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area.
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Gbolahan Oki, announced the decision during a stakeholders’ meeting with traders and market executives.
He explained that the 15-hectare Katangowa site has been fully developed with facilities to support business activities.
Oki noted that the current Computer Village location was originally designated as a residential area but was converted into a commercial hub without official approval.
“The government wants your cooperation to make this relocation a reality. The time is now, and we have 18 months to complete the process.
“Katangowa has been chosen because it offers everything needed for your businesses, with easy access to materials and infrastructure,” he said.
The relocation plan, first introduced in 2006, had been stalled for years due to slow development work.
Iyaloja of Computer Village, Abisola Azeez, recalled that market leaders had reached an agreement with then-Governor Bola Tinubu, now Nigeria’s President, to move the market to Katangowa. She urged traders to cooperate with the government.
Project Coordinator, Olayinka Bello, said the new market would include facilities such as a police post, hotels, and proximity to the Bus Rapid Transit terminal to ease movement for traders and customers.
