Nigerian media personality and human rights activist, Omoba Kenneth Aigbegbele, has stirred public conversation with a dramatic marriage proposal to billionaire heiress and disc jockey, Florence Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy.
Aigbegbele, a former media adviser to ex-First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan, had earlier made headlines after demanding a “submissiveness agreement” from Cuppy and her father, Femi Otedola. In a surprising turn, he has now dropped all conditions in his pursuit of her hand.
Speaking with journalists in Abuja, Aigbegbele appealed directly to the Otedola family.
“I am on my knees, pleading with my would-be in-laws to bless my proposal of love to their jewel, Ifeoluwa. I will woo her, adore her, cherish her, protect her, and prove that true, unshakable love still exists in this world,” he said.
Explaining his change of heart, he described Femi Otedola as “a man of integrity, a family pillar, and a believer in African tradition,” adding that his feelings for Cuppy are “real and unconditional.”
Aigbegbele said his admiration for the disc jockey stems from her resilience, creative talent, academic achievements, and the strong family values evident in her upbringing.
Since going public with his intentions, he claimed he has received messages of support from within Nigeria and abroad.
“From Abuja to New York, from London to Epe, the calls keep coming. My friends in Lagos are even ready to storm Epe with kola nuts and palm wine for her grandmother as a sign of serious intention,” he said.
He concluded with an emotional plea: “Marriage is the oldest covenant of love. I am not chasing a fantasy; I am pursuing a future. Ifeoluwa is more than a star; she’s a cultural icon, a global ambassador of Nigerian pride. I’m not just in love… I am committed. And I am asking the nation to stand with me.”
The proposal has sparked debates online over courtship etiquette, particularly for wealthy public figures. Whether this grand gesture will end in a celebrated union or remain a colourful episode in Nigeria’s entertainment history is yet to be seen.
