A chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Abia State, Naval Commander MacDonald Ubah (rtd), has said that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s government lives in falsehood with nothing to show as achievements since assumption of office.
Ubah said Ikpeazu’s achievements are only seen on television, describing the state government’s much-talked-about projects as cosmetic.
Ubah stated this during an interaction with journalists in Ubakala, Umuahia, with unkind words for the government over its inability to fix decayed infrastructure in the state and clear the backlog of salaries owed Abia teachers despite funds received by the State.
The House of Representatives aspirant for Ikwuano/Umuahia constituency said “from my assessment, the present government in Abia State has not done anything. They have failed in all facets of governance. They have failed in education. Teachers are always embarking on strike because of the failure by the government to pay their salaries.”
He continued: “Pensioners have not been paid despite huge funds accruing to the State. Healthcare infrastructures in total dilapidation. Roads are not being properly constructed in the State. Is it industry? We are always seeing on television that shoes made in Aba are shoes that are worn by white men. Garments made in Aba are garments worn by white men.”
He added that, “the State government has not created an enabling environment for those people to thrive. And we are just living in falsehood. Because the State government will do an advertisement of a shoe manufacturing factory, and the pictures you see are the pictures of the Ethiopians for the gullible citizens to be watching.
“That’s not fair. Now, the roads they make boast that they have done, how many kilometers of roads have they done? What is the quality of those roads? In other states, we see interventions on Federal roads because people are suffering while plying the bad roads. But in our case, we have not even done what is necessary, how much more to do interventions on behalf of the Federal government.
“So, I’m yet to see aspect of governance that has been adequately taken care of, unless it is in the aspect of propaganda.”
