12 injured as American Airlines plane catches fire

One of the engines of an American Airlines plane caught fire on Thursday evening at Denver International Airport forcing passengers to stand on its wing.

Confirming the incident was the Federal Aviation Administration. It said in a statement, “American Airlines Flight 1006, a Boeing 737-800 en route to Dallas-Fort Worth from Colorado Springs with 172 passengers and six crew aboard, diverted to Denver around 5:15 p.m. local time, after the crew reported engine vibrations.”

The FAA said an engine caught fire after the aircraft had landed and was taxiing to the gate.

The pilot  of the plane, it was learnt, had before landing, notified air traffic controllers in Denver that the flight was experiencing engine issues, He, however, said it was not an emergency.

Twelve passengers on the flight were said to have sustained minor injuries and taken to the hospital.
