The Senate on Thursday requested President Muhammadu Buhari to order the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare the results of the June 12, 1993 presidential election results.
The election was believed to have been won by Bashorun M. K.O Abiola.
The Senate commended the president for recognising June 12 as Democracy Day, and applauded the award of GCFR and GCON titles to Abiola and his running mate, Ambassador Babagana Kingibe respectively.
The Upper Chamber also asked the Buhari administration to ensure that all the entitlements due to the late Abiola, and Kingibe as President and Vice President respectively are paid to them.
President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, particularly noted that the recognition was long overdue.
