No fewer than 11 persons have been confirmed dead following the outbreak of cholera at Ndibokote village, Ezza Inyimagu, in the Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The cholera outbreak was recorded in the community on Monday. It claimed the life of a nursing mother, who left behind her nine-month-old baby.
Speaking during the rapid response at Iziogo Health Centre, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Moses Ekuma, confirmed the incident, adding that no fewer than 10 deaths had been recorded while about 20 affected persons were responding to treatment.
The commissioner noted that three treatment centres, including Iziogo Health Centre Sudan Mission, Onuenyim and Ndibokote villages, have been established to treat cholera patients.
He lauded development partners such as the World Health Organisation and the United Nations Children’s Fund for their support.
