Abuja FMC to commence kidney transplant

The Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abuja, has inaugurated a steering committee on kidney transplant as part of moves to address the rising cases of kidney-related deaths in the country.

The committee, composed of senior medical experts, has a top Consultant Nephrologist, Dr. Ernest Aniede, as its chairman.

The Public Relations Officer of Abuja FMC, Mr. Obadiah N. K. Gana, who disclosed this in a statement, said the committee was inaugurated by the Medical Director of the FMC, Prof. Saad Ahmed.

“The critical committee is a proactive move to address the issue of the escalating incidents of kidney-related deaths in the FCT and indeed the country.

“While the cost of treating kidney-related ailments, especially transplants, is high, the FMC is adopting measures to address the dart of expertise in the area,” the statement said.

The Medical Director of the FMC, Prof. Saad Ahmed, said the move is preparatory to the commencement of kidney transplants in the FCT.

Prof. Ahmed, while addressing Dr. Aniede and his team, charged them to work together with full dedication and commitment expected to usher in the successful commencement of kidney transplant procedures in the facility.

He presented the committee members with their official letters and urged them to give the deserved attention to the assignment.
