The Edo State governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata, has declared September 21 as Edo Freedom Day.
A statement signed by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Comrade Sam Uroupa said that Akpata’s declaration marks a turning point in Edo State’s trajectory, as the people would finally break free from the shackles of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress’ (APC’s) leadership failures.
Addressing Edo voters during a ward-to-ward campaign in Benin City, Akpata lamented the 25-year-reign of PDP and APC, during which they failed to provide basic necessities like quality education, world-class infrastructure, accessible healthcare, food security, and effective security.
Despite receiving a whopping N16 billion monthly allocation and accumulating a staggering N600 billion debt, these parties have nothing to show for it, he said.
Akpata promised to create an enabling environment for Edo people both for the city centre and rural communities to thrive, “providing: Quality education that equips our children for the future, World-class infrastructure that facilitates economic growth, Accessible healthcare that caters to the well-being of all, Food security that ensures no Edo person goes hungry, Effective security that guarantees safety and peace.”
Akpata emphasized that September 21 is not just an election day but a freedom day for Edo people to take back their State from failed leaders.
He urged all Edo people to join this revolution and vote for Labour Party on September 21, promising that “together, we can build a better Edo State for all.”
