Bashir, the son of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, has replied a “critic” who inquired if the ex-governor stole public funds.
The Kaduna State House of Assembly, in May this year, called for the prosecution of El-Rufai, after accusing him of diverting N423 billion and leaving the State in significant debt arising from alleged mismanagement.
A group known as the Kaduna Citizens Watch for Good Governance, on Wednesday, petitioned the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) urging the anti-graft agencies to prosecute El-Rufai.
Earlier in June, the group had led a protest to the Kaduna State Government House demanding the arrest and prosecution of El-rufai and other members of his cabinet indicted by the Assembly.
Chairman of the group, Victor Duniya, while addressing journalists after submitting their petition to the ICPC, said they presented a similar petition to the EFCC in Abuja for the agency to expedite action on the prosecution of El-Rufai and others.
On Thursday, a Nigerian named Onye Spare Parts on X platform asked the younger El-Rufai in Pidgin English: “Your papa thief abi e no thief?”
Responding, the former overnor’s son said he could not say for certain that his father was innocent of the allegations.
He wrote: “I can’t say I know for sure o. That one na between him and Allah. But I personally do not believe the father I know that raised me and my siblings is a thief. However, to each their own to believe as they wish.”
He then asked: “You, your papa na thief? Or him too na between him & Jesus?”
