Suspected kidnappers, on Thursday, abducted a pregnant woman identified as Raheemat Ogunbunmi in Oke Lantoro area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the State, SP Omolola Odutola, said the victim’s husband reported the case at the Kemta Divisional Police Headquarters.
The PPRO said the woman was whisked away by his abductors in a taxi she boarded on her way to the State Hospital in Ijaye area of the town, adding that efforts are on to ensure the rescue of the victim unhurt and the arrest of the gang.
The victim, a 32-year-old housewife, according to her husband, Lateef Ogunbunmi, is due for delivery any time from now.
He was said to have received a text message of his Whatsapp line that his wife had been kidnapped.
The police spokesperson said: “The incident, according to available information, was reported at Kemta Divisional Police Headquarters by the victim’s husband, Ogunbunmi Lateef, after he got a text message from the kidnapper she reportedly boarded a taxi with.
“He informed the authorities that earlier in the day, at approximately 10:20am, his heavily pregnant wife, Raheemat Lateef, who is 32 years old, had left their home to go to State Hospital in Ijaiye for her scheduled delivery.
“However, at 12:37 pm, Ogunbunmi received a WhatsApp message stating that his wife had been kidnapped by an unknown person she had boarded a taxi with.
“The message mentioned that she had been moved from the taxi to another car, which was not described.
“The abductors were reported to be armed with guns and knives.”
