Judge who ruled against Sanusi’s reinstatement is in US, Kano Gov Yusuf fumes

* Vows to table complaint at governors’ forum

Kano State governor, Abba Yusuf, has said that the judge who ruled to stop the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano is in the US.

Sanusi was reinstated on Thursday, four years after his dethronment. The reinstatement followed Governor Yusuf’s signing of the Kano State Emirate Council (Repeal) Bill 2024 into law.

In the wake of the development, a Federal High Court in Kano issued an ex-parte order preventing the governor from reinstating Sanusi II.

But during the presentation of the appointment letter to Sanusi on Friday, Governor Yusuf spoke in Hausa about the court order stopping him from dissolving the Kano Emirates created by the previous administration.

According to him, the judge, who was out of the country, had no right to stop what the State Assembly had done following due process.

The governor raised eyebrow following court injunction obtained around 2am to stop the reinstatement of HRH Muhammadu Sanusi II, emphasising that the judge who gave the injunction was far away in America.

He said, for the avoidance of doubt: “I assented to the law some minutes past 5pm …that 2am in the midnight, there was a court injunction.

“Even the judge that gave the court order was in America but he gave the order via online. That he gave us order in Kano.

“It is compulsory for law makers to also abide by the law.

“I will table this kind of abnormalities before the Nigeria Governor’s Forum so that we can tackle it accordingly.

“We followed due process and that’s why we did what we did openly before everybody,” he added.
