Ekiti State governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, has sensationally asserted that Nigeria does not need President Muhammadu Buhari as its leader in 2019, describing his resolve to seek a second term in office as an ambition that is dead on arrival.
The governor also warned that Buhari will kill Nigeria if he is re-elected president.
Fayose spoke in Ado-Ekiti through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Idowu Adelusi, on the President’s intention, saying if Buhari is unable to read the handwriting on the wall and know when to call it quit, Nigerians would show him the exit door in 2019 by voting him out of office.
Fayose argued that Buhari is not only too old to lead Nigeria well, but he has bungled the opportunity given to him by his woeful performance.
“That ambition is dead on arrival. We don’t want grandpa as president anymore. Nigeria does not need a Buhari as president in 2019. Buhari is old and tired. If people don’t know when to take their leave and say bye, Nigerians will show them the exit door.
“He has done more harm to this country. His ambition is a means by which Nigerians will tell him good riddance to bad rubbish when they boot him out of office. He is an easy candidate to defeat in the poll, for he has failed woefully.
“He has failed in all fronts. He has failed in his so-called fight against corruption; he has failed on the economic front. He has not done well in term of security. People are being killed in large numbers daily and Nigerians have no confidence in him.
“His declaration today (Monday) is a slap on Nigerians, in the face of what Nigerians are passing through. His government is not only clueless, but in shambles. He should go home and rest,” Fayose said through his aide.
Meanwhile, the Accord Party and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State say they will wrestle political power from the All Progressives Congress following Buhari’s declaration to run for a second term in 2019.
The secretaries of the two parties said Buhari’s announcement of his plan to to seek re-election has brightened the chances of their parties.
Mr Wasiu Emiola, the Secretary of PDP, said that President Buhari’s declaration has further made it easier for the PDP to defeat APC in the 2019 presidential election.
Mr. John Igbinsola, the state Secretary of Accord Party, described President Buhari as a joker.
Igbinsola claimed some cabals were pushing the president to re-contest because of their selfish interest.
”President Buhari is acting the scripts of certain politicians that want to further enslave the masses through anti-people policies.
”But Accord party will present credible presidential candidate that will wrest power from the APC government, come 2019,” he said.
Emiola of the PDP said the APC led Federal government had lost its credibility due to its “poor performance” in the last three years.
He alleged that APC government was characterised by nepotism, adding that the anti corruption war of the Buhari administration was below the expectations of Nigerians.
”President Buhari’s re-election bid will not get the support of the masses as against what it was in 2015.” Emiola predicted
