About seven persons were feared dead on Monday, in the explosions that rocked two separate gas plants in different locations of Lagos State.
One was the Second Coming gas filling station in Magodo area, while the other occurred in Ajara Vevho area of Badagry.
In the Magodo blast, officials of the Lagos State Fire Service, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Federal Road Safety Corps and the Lagos State Emergency Agency (LASEMA) rushed to the scene to contain the inferno and also carry out rescue operations. The blast was officially reported at about 7:25am.
Eyewitnesses said the fire outbreak could have been as a result of gas leakage from the Gas Plant, which was triggered by a smoking rickety vehicle.
Safety officials say that three reservoir tanks for storage of gas and one 33, 000-litre gas truck in the Gas Station were engulfed in fire with a secondary explosion within the gas station.
Two burnt bodies were recovered behind the fence of the gas station, while eight other persons recorded various degrees of burns and injuries.
In another development, five more persons were feared killed and another five injured in a separate gas explosion, which occurred in Ajara Vevho area of Badagry, also in Lagos.
The explosion reportedly occurred at a gas shop as the dealers were offloading cooking gas into their shop.
There were conjectures that the explosion might have started by a spark from a mobile phone, which was being used by an unidentified person.
The director of the Lagos State Fire Service, Rassak Fadipe confirmed the incident and added that firefighters from Badagry fire station and neighbouring stations had been mobilized to tackle the fire.
