Assault on cop: Falana confirms readiness to defend Seun Kuti in court

Human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana said on Sunday that Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti, has sought his legal services after the singer’s assault on a police officer in Lagos.

Falana was reported to have also claimed that the singer has enough evidence to defend himself.

He confirmed: “I am his lawyer, and he has briefed me. He certainly has evidence. This is not the first time he is dealing with the police.”

A viral video of the singer assaulting a police officer on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State emerged on Saturday.

The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, had in a quick riposte, ordered the arrest of the singer.

The IGP has equally ordered a speedy and full investigation into the remote and immediate cause(s) of the alleged assault and prosecution of the suspect.

Meanwhile, Seun has explained why he slapped a police officer, an action that has sparked outrage.

Reacting via his Instastory on Saturday, Seun  Kuti said the officer attempted to kill him and his family members.

He said the policeman has apologized, and he has forgiven him.

He warned those saying he is chasing clout, to mind their business and not let the police officer lose his job.

Kuti wrote: “He tried to kill me and my family. I have the proof, but I no dey chase clout. He has apologised and I have agreed not to press charges.

“Make una mind una business make the poor guy no lose him job.”
