A fire outbreak, on Tuesday, gutted a female hostel on the Ekehuan campus of the University of Benin, Edo State.
The incident, according to reports, started at about noon, and did not result in any fatalities.
Several assets of the university were reportedly destroyed by the fire incident.
Eyewitnesses said the inferno started from an electric spark in one of the rooms, and spread to the other rooms because of the plywood used as demarcation.
The source claimed that the incident was promptly brought to the attention of the fire service, which dispatched its firefighters to the scene to put out the fire.
A student, Stella Osagie, who lives in Block A, said she lost her laptop and an iPhone XR valued at over N200,000.
A resident of PG Block A, Martha Henry, said all her possessions, including money, diploma certificate and project work were destroyed in the fire.
