A randy landlord has reportedly received a brutal public beating after he was allegedly caught having sex with his tenant’s second wife.
The man was filmed being flogged mercilessly before being given a fine for his misdemeanor in Tanzania.
According to a report, Katayo Bote was publicly caned and fined over KSh 11,000 (£68).
His tenant, Emmanuel Ndalawa, told local media that he had long suspected something iffy was going on between his second wife and Bote.
Ndalawa claimed he caught her and Bote in one of the room’s in his house having sex.
It appears the incident was reported to leadership of the village which then decided to punish Katayo publicly “to serve as a deterrent to others.”
In the brutal footage, two men are seen flogging Bote, while he laid on the ground outside, while a large crowd watched the spectacle.
Corporal punishment is not uncommon in the East African country.
Back in 2017, a video posted online showing a regional commander in southern Tanzania caning two boys caused global outrage.
The pair was flogged while lying in pain on the ground apparently as a punishment for burning down their dormitories after their mobile phones were confiscated.
Successive governments have been accused of giving mixed signals regarding public beatings.
In 2018, it banned teachers from taking canes into class though Human Rights Watch says many children still face violence in the classroom.
A trainee-teacher was filmed caning children in 2016 and was subsequently sacked, but teachers who were filmed caning children in Mbeya in 2016 were suspended and demoted.
However, former president John Magufuli praised the practice while in power up until his death in 2021, saying flogging had been used as an effective form of discipline for many years.
It is not known what the condition of the man is following the brutal attack.
