Abia guber: APGA’s Greg Ibe denies stepping down for Mascot Kalu

* Condemns ‘mischievous’ report

The All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) governorship candidate in Abia State, Professor Greg Ibe, has refuted social media report that he stepped down for Mascot Uzor Kalu, candidate of the Action Peoples Party (APP) and younger brother of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.

Ibe declared that there is no iota of truth in the report, which he described as mischievous, and deliberately planted to cause confusion.

According to the Proprietor of Gregory University, Uturu, it is an insult to his person to suggest that he would step down for Mascot Kalu, describing the latter as not being his match.

The APGA flag bearer, through a statement by the Director General of his Campaign Council, Dr Longman Nwachukwu, urged his supporters and all residents of Abia State to disregard the report.

Ibe declared that he is fully in the governorship race with his running mate, Hon. Obinna Ichita, and could not have withdrawn for anybody.

Earlier reports quoted the Council of Traditional Rulers of Abia North Senatorial District as hailing Prof Ibe for his decision to step down for Mascot Uzor Kalu, a development that reportedly gladdened the latter’s heart.

The report further claimed that the traditional rulers appealed to Ibe’s supporters not to view their principal’s decision as weakness, counseling that it is an act of humility, which he took in the interest of the State and the senatorial zone.
