El-Rufai directs Kaduna ministries, agencies to accept payments in old, new Naira currencies

Kaduna State governor, Nasir Elrufai, has directed ministries, departments, and agencies to accept payments in old and new currencies in line with the Supreme Court recent judgment.

The governor, in a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Media and Communication, Muyiwa Adekeye, said the directive followed recent order of the Supreme Court restraining the Federal Government from enforcing the February 10 deadline to stop the use of old N200, N500 and N1000 notes.

“In line with the subsisting order of the Supreme Court, the Kaduna State government has directed its ministries, departments, and agencies to ensure that their collection agents continue to accept payments made in all denominations of the naira, Old and new,” he said, adding that the laws of Kaduna State do not allow personnel of government agencies to be involved in cash collection of revenues.

El-Rufai had in a statewide broadcast on Thursday, directed residents and banks in Kaduna State to continue using the old and new naira notes.
