* Amid scarcity in banks
A few days after the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) released the newly redesigned Naira notes into circulation, reports say large wads of the currency are being hawked at mark-up prices at social events in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The hawkers, reports further revealed, are charging N200 on every N1000 note, despite the apparent scarcity in the commercial banks.
On Saturday, a woman was sighted hawking the newly redesigned wads of N200 bank notes unhindered at a party in Ibadan.
Meanwhile, several bank branches, which claimed to have received small allocation, are already complaining of running low on stock.
As of Thursday last week, there was a limited supply of the redesigned notes as bank tellers mixed a few notes with the old ones for over-the-counter withdrawals, while automated teller machines continued to dispense old banknotes.
Further findings revealed that several bank branches were yet to get their new note allocations, although several bank officials expressed confidence that that they will soon get.
