Flooding: Sylva urges speedy repair of East-West road

The Minister for States Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, has asked the appropriate authority to ensure that the East-West road destroyed by floods is speedily repaired.

Speaking along the Okogbe axis of the East-West road, Sylva said what he saw was far beyond what he heard, and beyond alleviation.

He said although the flood was receding, “the water will come back in a few months’ time.

“As we stand here, we can see that the  water is receding but the water will come back  in next year.

“We must look for a kind of solution to this problem, which has bedeviled us here. It is not a natural disasters but it is something that we experience every year,” he stated.

Sylva continued: “We have to come together as a people and leave our political differences aside. We are not here to campaign at all. This is not about any political party. This is about Nigeria.

“The Federal Executive Council has already taken steps to ensure that this problem is resolved and ensure that the devastation that we are seeing is resolved as quickly as possible.

“But going beyond that, we must make sure that we find  a lasting solution as quickly as possible and see what we can do not minding our political differences,” he said.

The minister, however, visited internally displaced persons at Igbogene and Oxbow camps where he donated a truckload of food items and other relief materials.
