Elon Musk now to charge $8 monthly for verified Twitter accounts

* Down from earlier proposed $20

World’s richest man and owner of Twitter has finally reviewed the $20 fee earlier proposed for Twitter handles with the verified badges.

Musk had stated Twitter will soon start charging verified users $19.99 per month for the blue check mark verifying the authenticity of an account.

The development followed barely a few days after Elon Musk completed his takeover of Twitter, stating the ‘whole verification process was going to be revamped’ but did not give details on it.

Twitter accounts that already have the verification will have to comply with the new mechanism and pay up for the blue badge.

It said verified users would have 90 days to subscribe or lose their blue check mark.

But the intended $20 fee continues to spur reactions from users of the microblogging app with many registering their grievances.

However, Musk on Tuesday, proposed a reduction in the fee to $8 in response to Stephen Edwin King, an American author of horror, supernatural fiction, suspense, crime, science-fiction, and fantasy novels who expressed disgust at the intended $20 fee while insisting he ought to be paid and not the other way round.

On Wednesday, the founder of Tesla Inc, confirmed the earlier stipulated $20 fee how now being reviewed down to $8.

Musk informed ‘all complainers to continue with their complaints but there wasn’t any way they were going to escape paying $8.

The 51-year-old billionaire tweeted: “To all complainers, please continue complaining, but it will cost $8.”

Further revealing where he got the inspiration for the proposed charge on the Twitter verified handles,   Musk added: “Totally stole idea of charging for insults & arguments from Monty Python tbh.”
