* One sacked earlier for supporting Obi
The Senior Special Assistant to Delta State governor Ifeanyi Okowa on Youth Development, Osheokwu Onochie, has resigned his appointment to support the presidential candidate of the Labour Party for the 2023 elections, Mr. Peter Obi.
Onochie, on Thursday, tendered his resignation letter to Governor Okowa, who is the vice presidential candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 elections, through the Secretary to the State Government.
Onochie, in his letter, said his decision to resign was premised on moral grounds, and the call by Nigerian youths for a new and better Nigeria, adding that the resignation was with immediate effect.
The letter reads: “I wish to officially intimate your office of the resignation of my appointment as Senior Special Assistant on Youth Development with immediate effect.
“My decision to resign is premised on moral and call of every Nigerian youth for a new and better Nigeria. Sir, on this ground I have decided to be fully “Obidient” to their call so we work together to achieve a better new Nigeria.
“However, I thank your Excellency for the opportunity given to me to serve in your government for over three years as Senior Special Assistant on Youth Development. Kindly accept the assurance of warmest regards always.”
About 48 hours earlier, Atare Awin, a media technical aide of the Delta State Commissioner in charge of the Directorate of Project Monitoring and Audit, Anthony Onoriode Ofoni, was sacked for allegedly supporting the presidential bid of Peter Obi.
“Most of the ‘Obidients’ are PDP and APC people who are tired of bad governance. Does that mean they don’t have a voter’s card?” Awin had posted on Facebook.
In a letter personally signed by Ofoni on Tuesday, the commissioner stated that the former PDP councillorship aspirant was fired for sharing counter opinions about Okowa’s administration.
The letter read: “I wish to inform you of your disengagement as Special Assistant Technical Aide to my office as the Delta State Commissioner for Project Monitoring/Audit.
“This decision became necessary owing to your well-publicized opinions on the policies and programs of the Delta State Government and PDP at large, which are in contradiction to what the State Government had achieved in the last 7 years.
“As a Commissioner and member of the State Executive Council, I wish to distance myself from the opinions you expressed on your platforms, as it does not represent my stand on the performance of Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa administration which has been well credited for the overall transformation in the State by way of giant strides in infrastructure, social development, job creation, wealth creation and the overall development across the state.
“This disengagement is with immediate effect. I, therefore, wish you well in your future political endeavour.”
