The Police in Kwara State have confirmed the death of two suspected kidnappers who were gunned down during a gun duel with operatives inside a forest in Moro LGA.
The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday, when the police accosted the kidnappers in the bush while they were sharing the ransom collected for the abduction of one Afusat Lawal and her son, Taofeek.
The victims are the wife and son of an APC House of Assembly candidate, Hon Lawal Ayansola Saliu, popularly known as LAS.
Spokesperson of the police in Kwara, Ajayi Okasanmi, said: “The kidnappers were accosted in the bush by the command’s tactical team, supported by vigilantes and hunters, while sharing the ransom collected from the family of the victims.
“They opened fire on the operatives immediately they were sighted. During exchange of fire, two of them that suffered gunshot injuries were arrested and taken to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) where they were confirmed dead.”
Okasanmi added a Honda Accord marked: Lagos GJ 52 LSR, a single-barrel gun and money were recovered from them.
He said effort was on to arrest the fleeing members of the gang.
