The Police in Anambra State have arrested the suspended transition committee chairman of Nnewi North Local Government Area, Mr. Mbazulike Iloka, over the death of his wife.
The Police spokesman in Anambra State, Ikenga Tochukwu, confirmed Iloka’s arrest on Wednesday.
He said the Command, through the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), is conducting further investigations into the matter.
Tochukwu said Iloka was arrested based on allegations that he probably had a hand in the death of his wife Chidiebere, last week.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo promptly suspended him from office following the incident.
The former chairman aka Mba Mba, was accused of killing his wife in a case of domestic violence, a charge he denied, claiming she slumped and died.
Two human rights groups – Campiagn for Democracy (CD) and Human Rights Liberty Access and Peace Defenders Foundation (HURIDE) – petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, to prosecute Iloka.
Chidiebere was said to have slumped and died on August 7, after serving her husband breakfast.
Yet some people believe that her death was not natural, following bruises allegedly found all over her body.
