Police launch manhunt for bus driver who stabbed dispatch rider to death in Lagos

The police in Lagos have commenced manhunt for a commercial bus driver who allegedly stabbed a dispatch rider to death in the Surulere area of the State.

The incident occurred on July 27 around 10am after the bus and motorcycle were involved in an accident along Funsho Williams Avenue, Surulere.

It was gathered that trouble started after the yet-to- be identified driver knocked down and injured the dispatch rider identified as Johnson.

An altercation was said to have ensued between them and the rider in the process, allegedly kcocked the driver on the head with his crash helmet.

Angered by his bleeding head, the driver, it was learnt, ran to his vehicle and brought out two jack knives, with which he allegedly stabbed the rider on the back and neck.

He reportedly fled the scene as soon as he stabbed the rider while onlookers contacted the police who rushed the victim to the hospital but he was pronounced dead.

Confirming the incident, the police spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said efforts are being made to arrest the fleeing driver.

He said the police have identified the company that owns the dispatch motorcycle with registration number KRD700QK, adding that that bike was taken to the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) for further action.
