The Federal government has shortlisted 14 directors from different Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to be screened for the position of Accountant General of the Federation (AGF).
The search for a new Accountant-General of the Federation became necessary
after the erstwhile AGF, Idris Ahmed, was in May this year arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged N80 billion fraud.
Idris was subsequently suspended from office by the Minister for Finance, Zainab Ahmed, while Anamekwe Nwabuoku was appointed in acting capacity.
But Nwabuoku was himself removed barely weeks of taking charge of the office, following which, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Folasade Yemi-Esan, issued a circular in June calling for eligible applicants to submit their applications on or before July 6, 2022 to fill the position.
However, in a fresh circular addressed to the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, signed by Rufai Mariya A. D. Rufai, Director (Administration) For: Director Overseeing the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation Nigeria listed 14 directors to be considered for the plum job.
According to the circular titled: “Re- commencement of the process of Appointment of A Substantive Accountant-General of the Federation,” the Directors were from MDAs ranging from Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security & Civil Defence Corp. (NSCDC, Ministry of Interior, Nigeria Immigration.
Others are, National Boundary Commission (NBC), Agric and Rural Development, North East Development Commission, Federal ministry of Education, Federal ministry of Tranisportation and federal Information & Culture

Muhammad Murtala Saleh, Chizea Onochie Peter and Lydia Jafiya Shehu were from the office of the Accountant-General of the federation.
Bakre Modupe Julianah (Ministry of Police Affairs), Danladi Comfort Zakowi (NSCDC), Abah George Fidelis (Nigeria Immigration Service), Omachi Raymond Omenka (Ministry of Interior) and lbrahim Saadiyya Jibo (National Boundary Commission).
Other directors shortlisted are, Moharmmed Aminu YarAbba (Federal Fire Service), Samuel A. Waziri (Agric and Rural Development), Mahmud Adam Kambari (North East Development Commission), Mohammed Magaji M. Doho (Federal Ministry of Education), Mufutahu Bukolah (Federal Ministry of Transportation) and Yusuf Abdullahi Musa (Federal Ministry of Information & Culture).
