Anambra State government has formalized the process for the collection of revenue from its markets and vibrant transport sectors of the economy.
This followed the town hall meeting between the relevant government agencies and the leadership of the market unions and the public transport operators in the State.
The meeting, which held on June 29 at the Dora Akunyili Women’s Development Centre in Awka, was addressed by Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
There, the Chairman/Chief Executive of Anambra State Internal Revenue Service, Mr. Richard Nwora Madiebo informed Ndi Anambra of his plans in the transport sector to develop and deliver a world-class revenue administration system that will enhance rapid growth, eliminate touting and multiple taxation system across the State, among others.
In the plan, Madiebo presented the daily operational permit fees for the transport sector, including park permits for Okada, Tricycle (Keke), Shuttle/Buses, Taxi, Township Bus and Pickup Vans. He said the daily unit prices for each include:
Okada – N300,
Tricycle (Keke) – N600;
Shuttle/Buses – N1, 000;
Taxi – N700;
Township Bus – N1, 200;
Pick up Van – N1, 000.
The unit prices, he said, include a daily operational permit fee for each; 5% union commission and park permit. He explained that the payment could be monthly, quarterly and half-yearly. He said each month, they are to pay for only 25 days instead of the actual total number of days in the month.
The Chairman further explained that if the operators pay quarterly or half-yearly, they receive more discounts.
The new rates are as follows:
Okada
– N300 daily
– N7, 500 for one month
– N21, 000 with a discount of N1,500 for one quarter
– N40, 500 with a discount of N4, 500 for the half-yearly
Keke
– N600 daily:
– N15,000 for one month
– N42,000 with a discount of N3, 000 for one quarter
– N81, 000 with a discount of N9, 000 for the half-yearly
Shuttle/Buses
– N1,000 daily
– N25, 000 for one month
– N70,000 with a discount of N5, 000 for one quarter
– N135, 000 with a discount of N15, 000 for the half-yearly
Taxi
– N700 daily
– N17, 500 for one month
– N49,000 with a discount of N3,500 for one quarter
– N94, 500 with a discount of N11, 000 for a half-yearly
Township Bus
– N1,200 daily
– N30,000 for one month
– N84,000 with a discount of N6,000 for one quarter
– N162, 000 with a discount of N18,000 for the half-yearly
Pick up Van
– N1,000 daily
– N25,000 for one month
– N70,000 with a discount of N5,000 for one quarter
– N135, 000 with a discount of N15,000 for the half-yearly
The Head, Taxpayer Education and Enlightenment Team, Mrs. Sylvia Tochukwu-Ngige, made a clarification of the payment process through a statement: “To make these payments to the government, the payer can go to the nearest government identified agents or banks. She continued: “Ndi Anambra, the solution to our problem is here. Support our Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo for a better Anambra.
“I want a better salary, good roads, healthcare services, clean environment, quality education for my children; I hate the harassment from the ‘Agberos’. I want to live in a Dubai State in Nigeria’.
