* Police launch manhunt for fleeing suspect
The Police in Imo State have launched a manhunt for one Ifeanyi Osuiji, after he allegedly raped an 18-year-old girl, Amarachi Iwunze, to death in his newly built house.
The incident, which happened on Sunday at Umuduruewuewuru, Umuezeala Nsu, in the Ehime Mbano Local Government Area, on Sunday, prompted some youths in the area to raze the house of the 22-year-old suspect, alleged to be an Internet fraudster.
It was gathered that the teenager’s body was found in the suspect’s room, after he had escaped.
Reports said the news of the girl’s death broke after the mother of the suspect opened his room and found the body of the teenager on the bed.
A video clip on social media showed the rampaging youths destroying the suspect’s house.
“She (his mother) raised the alarm. When Ifeanyi found out that people were aware of his atrocity, he ran away. Now he is a wanted man.”
Police spokesman, Michael Abattam, confirmed the incident, saying efforts are being made “to arrest the fleeing suspect”.
