Osinbajo, Atiku, govs, monarchs, others present as Lekan Balugun wears Olubadan crown

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and former Vice President Abubakar Atiku, governors, traditional rulers and other notable Nigerians, on Friday, graced the installation of new Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, Okunmade II.

Balogun is the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadan land. 

Traditional rulers from the six states that make up the Southwest were also in attendance.

Some of the governors in attendance included Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun. Ondo, Osun, Ekiti, Osun and Lagos state governors were represented by their deputies.

Former governors of Ondo and Osun states, Dr Olusegun Mimiko and Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola; former deputy governor of Lagos, Femi Pedro represented Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Notable monarchs in attendance included Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III; Ooni of Ife, Enitan Adeyeye Enitan and Olugbo of Ugbo Kingdom, Oba Fredrick Akinruntan. 

Others are Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Abdulganiy Adekunle, Bada Balogun of Ibadanland, Olooye Adegboyega Adegoke, The Polytechnic Ibadan, Rector, Professor Kazeem Adebiyi, Ibadan High Chiefs, Mogajis, Baales and other traditional rulers from the Northern part of the country.

Oba Lekan Balogun succeeded the 41st Olubadan, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji who joined his ancestors on Sunday, January 2 this year.

Oba Balogun, who represented Oyo Central senatorial district between 1999 and 2003, was crowned as the 42nd Olubadan. 

The peak of the coronation rites was held at Mapo Hall in the heart of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. 

The State governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, presented the staff of office to the new monarch. 

This was preceded by other traditional rites, which were coordinated by the holders of traditional rites.
