Aregbesola enlists top Yoruba monarchs, seeks settlement with Tinubu

Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi and Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, in Ibadan on Tuesday, met behind closed-door with the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, in a bid to settle the latter’s rift with Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

The meeting, which lasted about two hours, was held at a private residence of the Alaafin of Oyo in Ibadan.

It was said to be a first step to reconciling Aregbesola with his estranged political mentor, Tinubu.

After consultations, the leaders agreed to move to the next stage of the meeting, which would be held at a later date, a source disclosed.

Aregbesola, during the build-up to February 2022 Osun State APC governorship primary, disparaged Tinubu for taking sides with Governor Gboyega Oyetola.

According to the source, Aregbesola has now pleaded with the traditional rulers to intervene and help resolve his feud with Tinubu, who is eyeing the presidential ticket of the APC for the 2023 election.

“Rauf Aregbesola came before the Ooni; after he entered, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi joined shortly. Nobody was allowed to enter.

“Nobody was briefed. They later rounded off and entered their cars and left. All those photos you see online were taken by their aides,” the source said.

However, details of the meeting were still unknown as of the time of filing this report.

It was also gathered that the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has waded into the rift.

“This is with a view to finding amicable solution to the feud between Aregbesola and his political mentor, Tinubu,” added the source.
