Pandemonium as fire breaks out at Law School campus in Lagos

Fire reportedly broke out Wednesday night at the Lagos campus of the Nigeria Law School on Victoria Island.

An eye witness was quoted as saying the fire, suspected to be from an electrical fault, started at 10 pm from the first floor of the 5-storey building hostel housing about 1,500 students.

The eyewitness continued: “The fire came with a big bang. There was stampede in the hostel. A student reportedly jumped from the first floor where the fire started near the reading room. Other students ran out from their rooms stark naked.

“People had asthma attacks and five people were injured bodily. One elderly woman who is a cleaner had her toe dislocated,” said the source.

The fire was, however, contained when hostel security officials switched off the main electrical before the arrival of fire fighters some minutes later.

The injured students were reportedly taken to the school clinic for treatment.

Reports say apart from one big electric cable, no tangible property was destroyed as nothing inflammable was close to the source of the fire.
