PDP sacks APC from Abuja municipal council, host of Buhari’s Aso Rock

After six years out of the loop of political power, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has regained control of the most important council in the Federal Capital Territory – the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

According to the final result declared, the PDP candidate, Christopher Zakka Mai Kalangu beat his APC opponent, Dr Murtala Usman Karshi, by a wide margin of more than 6,000 votes.

While Kalangu polled 19,302 votes, Karshi of the APC polled 13,240 votes.

AMAC houses all the three arms of the Federal government, including President Buhari’s Aso Rock.

APC’s Abdullahi Adamu Candido is the incumbent chairman of the council.

The party went into the election fractured following a legal battle for the chairmanship ticket between Dr Murtala Usman Karshi and Suleiman Gwagwa.
