Anambra govt debunks reports of death in Onitsha market building collapse

The Anambra State government has debunked reports that three persons died in a building that collapse at Ochanja Central Market, Onitsha, on Saturday evening.

The government declared categorically that nobody died in the incident.

The Chairman/Managing Director, Anambra State Physical Planning Board, Barrister Francis Maduekwe, said only one girl sustained injury.

“I am the Chairman/Managing Director of Anambra State Physical Planning Board. There is no how such an incident will happen, which involved loss of lives in Onitsha, that I or my staff in the area would not know. I was informed that the building collapsed and injured only one girl, who is currently responding to treatment at the hospital. When the incident occurred, I swiftly called my staff in the area to find out the cause and I was told that the building actually collapse but nobody died in the incident,” he explained.

Earlier reports claimed that three persons died in the incident.
