Ozekhome now leads legal team as FG files fresh terrorism charges against Nnamdi Kanu

The Federal government, on Monday, filed fresh terrorism charges against the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

The government, in the amended process filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja, increased the number of counts.

Hitherto, Nnamdi Kanu was facing a seven-count treasonable felony charge. But following the amended charges, he will be required to enter a fresh plea to a 15-count charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/383/2015, and signed by the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, M. B. Abubakar.

The Federal government amended the charge barely 24 hours to the scheduled commencement of hearing by trial Justice Binta Nyako.

The court had on December 2 last year fixed Tuesday to hear some pending applications, including the one Kanu filed to be discharged and acquitted.

Meanwhile, the IPOB leader has engaged the services of a constitutional lawyer and human rights activist, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN) to fortify his defense team in the fresh terrorism charges.

Ozekhome stormed the Federal High Court with Ifeanyi Ejiofor who had earlier been leading the team of lawyers for Kanu.

Ejiofor confirmed that changes have been effected in the defense team in view of the new charges from the Federal government.
