Lagos begins clamp down on trucks parked along Apapa-Oshodi expressway

Lagos State government has started removing trucks parked indiscriminately along the Apapa- Oshodi Expressway.

The Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, said this during a Strategic Stakeholders’ Meeting organised by Apapa Local Government Area.

The event, which held under the theme: “Building Together,” was part of activities to mark the council chairman, Idowu Sebanjo’s 100 days in office.

Hamzat, who was represented by Rasaq Amodu, said the removal of trucks commenced on December 3.

He said the major seaport in Apapa made it vulnerable to the high vehicular density that includes articulated trucks and tankers.

The vehicles, he said, constitute major threats to the roads.

The deputy governor hailed Sebanjo’s initiative in bringing stakeholders in Apapa together to chart a common front.

“In an attempt to tackle these enormous challenges, the administration of Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu is partnering with the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and other stakeholders in the maritime sector to get the heavy articulated vehicles off the road permanently around Apapa axis and improve traffic along the corridor,” he said.
