Wedding photo: Kano Sharia police tackle Buhari’s daughter-in-law

…As Nigerians urge her arrest

Kano State’s Sharia police – Hisbah – have prohibited the sharing of the pre-wedding photos of the daughter of the Emir of Bichi, Nasir Ado Bayero, Zahrah, who is also the fiancee of Yusuf Buhari, son of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The pre-wedding photos exposed the shoulders of Zahrah and this has attracted a lot of criticisms among Northerners who consider the pre-wedding pictures as being at variance with Islamic doctrine and the culture of the Hausa/Fulani.

Also, many critics faulted Hisbah for allowing such “immoral behavior” from the daughter of the revered traditional ruler and future daughter-in-law of President Buhari.

They argued that Hisbah is saddled with the responsibility of monitoring and sanctioning people that violated Islamic laws in the state and as such, the Emir’s daughter should be called to order.

In an interview with BBC Pidgin, the Kano Commander General of Hisbah, Harun Ibn-Sina, said the Emir’s daughter was not above the law and failed to set a good example for other Muslims.

According to him, the board has condemned Emir’s daughter’s actions as well as those of other Muslims who were sharing her pre-wedding photos and videos, saying they had sinned.

The BBC Pidgin said: “Sheikh Ibn Sina said di Emir daughter na Muslim wey no dey above di law and suppose lead by example if she wan blessings for her marriage. Di Hisbah boss also criticise pipo wey dey share di fotos and videos from di event saying na sin to share di materials.”

Another dimension to the sags is that, Nigerians have taken to social media to demand the arrest of Yusuf Buhari’s fiancee, Zahra Bayero.

One Onyeabor Joseph Flexy on Facebook said: “So why didn’t you go and arrest her? But if it were to be a nobody that did that by now you would have paraded her, double standards everywhere. Oga if you know you can’t do anything, you better keep quiet or better still resign your appointment.”

Iveren Susan said: “I was reading through to see if they have arrested her for committing this great crime, but no they won’t. The law is always for the poor.”

Ande Isaiah MhenuTer said: “Is he supposed to criticize or to arrest her? You didn’t criticize others, you arrested them. Coming out to talk because of the backlash you received confirms your hypocrisy. If they born you well, go and arrest her. This Sharia law is truly meant for the poor!”
