Panic as cholera outbreak kills 60 in Abuja

* Suspected cases now 698

Death toll from the cholera outbreak in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has risen to 60.

The Federal Capital Territory Administration has intensified community sensitisation on cholera and other severe diarrhoea disease outbreaks in the nation’s capital.

FCT Minister of State, Dr. Ramatu Aliyu, disclosed this on Thursday.

She also said suspected cases have risen from 604 to 698 within 72 hours.

The minister, represented by the Ag. Executive Secretary of FCT Primary Health Care Board, Dr. Iwot Ndaeyo, noted that Abaji area council recorded three suspected cases, with no death, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) 281with 22 deaths, Bwari Area Council 134 with 22 deaths.

Also, Gwagwalada area council recorded 220 suspected cases with nine deaths, Kuje area council 23 with four deaths and Kwali area council 37 with three deaths.
