PSC promotes 24 CPs to AIG rank, dumps EFCC ex-chair Magu

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 24 Commissioners of Police (CPs) to Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs).

But the commission did not promote former Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, a Commissioner of Police (CP).

The commission’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, disclosed this on Thursday in a statement in Abuja, titled: PSC Promotes 24 CPs, 35 DCPs, 52 ACPs, 50 CSPs, drops Ibrahim Magu.

According to Ani, the decisions were the highpoints of the commission’s 12th plenary meeting held on Tuesday, July 6 and Wednesday, July 7, and presided over by PSC Chairman Musiliu Smith, a retired Inspector General of Police (IGP).

Ani said: “The commission declined the promotion of CP Magu pending clearance from the office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice and the Office of the Inspector General of Police (IGP).”

The statement reads: “Similarly the commission approved the promotion of 35 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) to the rank of Commissioners (CPs), 52 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) to Deputy Commissioners (DCPs) and 46 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) to Assistant Commissioners (ACPs).

“It also considered and approved the promotion of 10 Superintendents of Police (SPs) to Chief Superintendents (CSPs), 17 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) to Superintendents (SPs), 139 Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs), whose names were skipped during the last promotion, to Deputy Superintendents (DSPs) and nine Inspectors to Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs)…”

“The three DIGs whose acting appointments were confirmed by the commission are: Tijanni Baba, who replaced retired DIG Aminchi Samaila Baraya for Northeast; Zanna Mohammed Ibrahim, who replaced retired DIG Ibrahim Larmode, Northeast and DIG Moses A. Jitoboh, who replaced retired DIG Ogbizi Michael for Southsouth.”
