Boko Haram insurgents have attacked Geidam town, hometown of the Acting Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba Alkali.

Reports say as the insurgents entered the town, they began burning shops, and engaged troops in a gun battle.

The Police Public Relation Officer for Yobe State, ASP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the invasion, while residents of the town reportedly fled in droves.

He said an Air Force jet has already been deployed to Giedam hovering in the sky.

ASP Abdulkariim also informed the attackers are inside the town, causing mayhem.

He promised to give details of the attack, which according to him were still sketchy as at Friday evening.

The last time the insurgents attacked Geidam was in February when they kidnapped three Customs officers.
