…PPPRA quickly deletes N212.61 per litre pricing template from website
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has insisted there is no increment in the ex-depot price of Premium Motor Spirit also known as petrol.
This is despite a template released by the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) that the new price of petrol has reached N212.6 per litre.
The PPPRA has, however, deleted the new template on its website.
The ex-depot price is the price at which the product is sold by the NNPC to marketers at the depots.
The NNPC had on Friday last week ruled out any increment in the ex-depot price, which it communicated through a terse tweet on its verified Twitter handle, @NNPCgroup.
It tweeted: “#NNPC Insists No Increase in Ex-Depot Price of PMS in March.”
The expected ex-depot price, as seen in the template, is N206.42, while the landing cost is N189.61.
With ex-depot price standing at N206.42 per litre, the March template shows that the landing cost for petrol per litre is N189.61.
Meanwhile, Nigerians have condemned the purported increase in the pump price of petrol by the Federal government.
The increment is eliciting outrage from angry Nigerians.
Several lamented that the increase will affect the prices of goods and services, which will inflict another round of hardships on the citizens.
While the Federal government had assured, through the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), that there will be no petrol price hike in March, the expected ex-depot price is N206.42, but the landing cost is N189.61 for the month of March, 2021.
Notwithstanding, on Friday morning across Lagos, filling stations were already experiencing long queues of buyers.
Indeed several Nigerians took to their Twitter and Facebook accounts to condemn the price hike.
Social media influencer, Aproko Doctor said: “Food prices before now have been out of reach for many Nigerians then you add #FuelPriceHike on top of it which will further drive up prices of things across the board.
“Yet, the average Nigerian’s earning has not increased… How exactly do we want to bring people out of poverty?
Another user, Ife Chuk said: “We woke up this morning only to see fuel price at N212 per litre. Before 2023, you may wake up to see the Chinese people coming to occupy your properties as collateral.
Odunlade Adekola tweeted: “Waking up to #FuelPriceHike @ N212 is very bad news. I urge the Buhari led administration to reverse this. We are suffering enough already”
@ThisIsPOU said: “In 2015 under a corrupt govt, 10 litres of fuel was N870:00… In 2021 under a reformed govt fighting corruption, 10 litres of fuel is N2,120:00
@pie4sure said: ”Landlord too will increase house rent #FuelPriceHike”
Hassan Ibrahim while reacting to The Nation’s news feed on Facebook said: “Nigerians should expect worse than this, when irresponsible elements are in the power corridor. No mercy, no sympathy on Nigerian masses. May Almighty Allah rescue us.”
Chidi Chigozirim said: “If you were among those that voted for this government, you should be very prayerful because normally e no suppose better for you…You should be having bad dreams every night”
