Police wins 4th OSOM Games

The Nigerian Police Force, at the weekend, made history by winning the 4th edition of the One Service, One Medal (OSOM) Games held in Abuja by amassing 71 gold, 50 silver and 31 bronze medals.

The National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC)  emerged second with 48 gold, 31 silver and 25 bronze medals; Federal Fire Service were third with 8 gold, 9 silver and 9 bronze medals.

The Federal Road Safety Corps finished in the fourth position with 3 gold, 6 silver and 2 bronze medals. Nigerian Correctional Service secured 2 gold, 2 silver 4 bronze medals. Nigerian Navy had 2 gold, 8 silver and 18 bronze medals.

The Nigerian Custom occupied the rear position with a 1 gold, 3 silver and one bronze medals.

 Minister  of Youth and Sports Development,  Mr. Sunday Dare, expressed delight that the event eventually took place despite the challenges occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to the cancellation of many sports events.

He equally expressed satisfaction over the high standard, discipline and commitment exhibited by the athletes in line with laid down rules and regulations.

He further said the event is a good prelude to the National Sports Festival scheduled to take place in Benin from February 14 – 28, 2021.

The Director of Grassroots Development in the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Dr. Ademola Are, said: “The OSOM Games was strategically designed by the ministry in collaboration with the military and paramilitary after the 2012 London Olympics Games to spur grassroots sports development. We are happy that we are achieving the vision of discovering hidden talents for future podium success for the country.” 

Over 740 athletes were registered for 15 events which took place over a four-day period in various venues in Abuja.
