Bayelsa State governor, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson has paid tribute to the late Gordon Bozimo as a great son of Ijawland who gave his best in the service of the nation.
The governor spoke at the Port Harcourt residence of the late Bozimo when he paid the family a condolence visit, describing his death as a great loss to the Ijaw nation.
Assuring that the Bayelsa state government would be actively involved in the funeral, Dickson enjoined the children of the deceased to strive to surpass their late father in his service to the nation. He further urged the two wives of late Bozimo and his family members to build on the legacies he left behind.
“I have come to convey our condolence to our mentor, leader. There is hardly any Ijaw man of repute who never interacted with him politically. He mentored many of us. He served our people at different times. He touched many lives. I interacted with him to benefit from his wise counsel.
“We want to let you (the family) know that you are not alone. The government of Bayelsa State will stand with you all the way. We are mourning as you all are mourning.
As sad as we feel, who are we to challenge God. His departure has left a huge vacuum “, he said, adding that the Bayelsa state government, as part of its honour to the late Bozimo, would like to receive his corpse.
The late Bozimo was former Chairman, Governing Board of National Youth Service Corps and was also a member Board of Trustees of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He died at the age of 67 at a hospital in Arkansas , United States of America on June 5 this year.
