Again, gunmen hijack commercial bus in Rivers

For the third time in two months, gunmen have again hijacked a commercial bus filled with passengers within the Rivers State territory.

Two weeks ago, gunmen similarly hijacked a commercial bus along the Ndele-Rumuji axis of the East-West Road in Emohua Local Government Area.

This time, the gunmen attacked a commercial bus owned by Rivers Mass Transport Company travelling from Port Harcourt to Owerri, around Isiokpo-Elele Owerri express way.

The bus with 18 passengers onboard, including the driver and conductor was reportedly intercepted and diverted into bush by the bandits.

One of the drivers plying the route (names withheld) who claimed to have escaped the attack, narrated his experience after they had loaded in Port Harcourt.

He revealed that soldiers had been mobilized to comb the bush area in an effort to rescue the captives.

According to him, “we were heading towards Owerri this morning; on getting to Omagwa, I met a co-driver who was also traveling to Owerri.

“When we got to Isiokpo, towards the bridge leading to Elele, the gunmen attacked us.

“I escaped because I was in front; they only shot at my car but could not get anybody inside the vehicle; the bus behind us was attacked and everybody including the driver abducted.‎”

Police could not confirm the incident last night.
