Bauchi State government says it has successfully enrolled 49,534 pupils into the (Almajiri Tsangaya) learning centres in the State.
Almajiri is the term used for Qur’anic school pupils commonly found in northern Nigeria.
Tsangaya School System was initiated by the Federal government to fast track integration of Almajiri pupils into formal school system.
The spokesperson for the Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board (BASUBEB), Malam Abdullahi Muhammad, disclosed this in an interview in Bauchi on Wednesday.
He said 931 new schools were established in the past two years to expand and increase access to quality education in rural communities.
“Out of the total 49,534 enrolled pupils; 35,037 are males and 14,497 females,” adding that the programme was being implemented in nine Local Government Councils (LGCs) of the State.
“The Board has so far trained 306 teachers as master trainers and support officers to facilitate successful implementation of the programme,” he said.
Muhammad added that the Board had procured and distributed 16,350 units of furniture for basic and post basic schools in the State.
