The Transition Committee Chairman of Arochukwu Local Government Area, Mazi Emmanuel Jideofor Kanu, has called on village heads in Arochukwu to be evangelists of the COVID-19 protocols in their various domains.
Kanu made the appeal during an interactive session with members of the Council of Ndi Eze Ogo (village heads) in Arochukwu Kingdom.
He told the village chiefs to be in the forefront of the fight against COVID-19 in their respective villages by sensitizing their subjects on the established protocols of the pandemic.
He specifically charged them to educate their people on the compulsory use of face mask, regular hand washing with soap and running water and restrictions on church activities such as vigils. He also reminded them about the maximum duration of church services, which, nonetheless, must not accommodate more than 50 worshippers during a given session.
On burials, the council boss reminded them of the State government’s directive of not having more than 30 persons, immediate interment, no merriment of any sort, and other engagements which the COVID-19 protocols forbid.
The Chairman also emphasized the prohibition of marriages, gatherings in hotels, bars and other social meetings, adding that markets will operate under strict supervision of the COVID-19 Task Force, while transporters must adhere to laid down directives, failure which they would be prosecuted.
Responding, the village head of Amuvi, Mazi T.N Okoroji, thanked the Chairman for the meeting, acknowledging the big role they have to play in the fight against the pandemic.
He called on his colleagues to make use of town-criers to disseminate information in their various villages, pledging their commitment to work with the COVID-19 Task Force, for strict and efficient compliance.
In his submission, the village head of Obinkita, Mazi Alfred Akwaeke Oji, prayed for long life and good health for the chairman and his family, and for the growth and development of Arochukwu LGA.
