Woman gives birth inside Lagos commercial bus

There was trepidation in Oshodi area of Lagos State on Tuesday after a pregnant woman delivered a baby inside a commercial bus while in transit.
The woman reportedly went into labour while in transit, leading to an emergency delivery inside the vehicle.
A video of the incident, which occurred on November 3, 2026, has since circulated on social media, sparking reactions among commuters and online users.
As of the time of filing this report, the identity of the mother, the sex of the baby and whether health workers assisted in the delivery had not been ascertained. It was also not clear if the mother and newborn were later moved to a hospital for post-natal care.
The development is the latest in a number of emergency births recorded in public places and commercial vehicles in Lagos.
Reports said that on March 27, 2024, a woman identified as Kubura Oluyemo gave birth to a baby girl inside a BRT bus en route from Ikorodu to Lagos Island, with the help of a nurse who was also on board. The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) later visited the family and presented gifts, including a preloaded Cowry card and cash support.
On February 19, 2024, another pregnant woman delivered a baby boy at Onipanu Bus Stop along Ikorodu Road after going into labour while waiting to board a bus. Officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and market women provided a temporary shelter for the delivery before mother and child were taken to hospital.
Similarly, in February 2017, a woman delivered a baby girl inside a commercial bus at Sabo, Ikorodu, with assistance from traffic officials and bystanders, before being taken to Ita-Elewa Health Centre.
The recurring incidents have highlighted the need for improved emergency medical response for expectant mothers who go into labour unexpectedly in public spaces.
