UNNBS director visits ISDIS, pledges to deepen partnership

  • In push to make UNN Business School Africa’s number one

The Director of the University of Nigeria Business School (UNNBS), Enugu Campus, Prof. Robinson Onuora-Ugwoke, on Tuesday, paid a strategic collaboration visit to the headquarters of the International School of Deposit Insurance Studies (ISDIS) in Abuja.

During the visit, Prof. Onuoha-Ugwuoke toured the ISDIS facilities, led by the Dean of Research, Dr. Kingsley Nwaigwe, and the Dean of Technology, Mr. Amu Ogbeide.

The team also showcased the ISDIS Online Learning Platform for professional education, powered by Sapphital Limited.

ISDIS and UNNBS are partners in delivering the professional Certificate in Deposit Protection and Financial Intelligence (CDPFI).

The programme, which was pre-launched in 2025 to feel the pulse of the target end-users and the open market, is designed to bridge the knowledge gap in financial intelligence, deposit protection and risk management in the financial services sector.

The visit, Prof. Onuoha-Ugwuoke’s first to ISDIS since assuming office, was aimed at strengthening the existing partnership.

Welcoming the Director, Dr. Nwaigwe said ISDIS was delighted to host him on his first visit to the school.

“We are very happy to receive the Director here at ISDIS. His visit is a strong signal of commitment to our partnership, and we are encouraged by how receptive he has been to what we are building here,” he said.

Speaking during the visit, Prof. Onuoha-Ugwuoke said he considers it an honor and a privileged responsibility to build on the progress already made and to uphold the integrity for which the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) is known.

“My vision is to make the UNN Business School stand out as number one business education centre, not just in Nigeria and West Africa, but to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with renowned business schools anywhere in the world,” he said.

“So that if you mention Harvard Business School and Lagos Business School or any other business school for that matter, your mind will come to UNN Business School as another giant in professional and business education.”

He added that the school’s goal is to equip men and women with the requisite knowledge, skills, integrity, and character to excel in business, public service, politics, and other professions.

Dr. Nwaigwe commended the immediate past Director of UNNBS for his role in building the partnership and expressed optimism that the new Director would take it further.

“We commend the immediate past Director of UNN Business School, Prof. Josaphat U. J. Onwumere, whose commitment and vision laid a solid foundation for the partnership between UNNBS and ISDIS. We are confident that Prof. Onuoha-Ugwuoke will build on that foundation and take our relationship to greater heights,” he said.

Digital learning sits at the heart of that vision, and it aligns closely with the ISDIS model of online professional education.

“Of course, you know the world is going digital, and we are leveraging on this. Most of our programs are taught online. Presently, we have more than 75 percent of our contact [hours] done online,” Prof. Onuoha-Ugwuoke said. “This encourages students to seek admission from wherever they are and take lectures online.”

Speaking on the technology behind the partnership, Mr. Ogbeide said ISDIS is open to expanding its collaboration with UNNBS in digital learning.

“Technology is changing how professional education is delivered, and ISDIS is ready to work closely with UNN Business School to expand access to world-class online learning. We are open to deepening this partnership to reach more learners, wherever they are,” he said.

On the purpose of the visit, Prof. Onuoha-Ugwuoke said partnerships must be built on a strong foundation.

“The University of Nigeria is a brand. The UNN Business School is a brand, so any institution we are collaborating with, we need to ensure that institution has what it takes to collaborate with us,” he said. “That is why we have come to see what is on ground, what are the challenges, what are the opportunities, how do we collaborate, what is in it for each collaborator, so that when we make proper arrangement at the beginning, the rest of the journey will be very smooth.”

Prof. Onuoha-Ugwuoke also noted that the Business School has put measures in place to secure students and property on its premises and is working to take examinations closer to students in locations with large concentrations.
