Parts of Abuja are currently experiencing a power outage following planned maintenance work being carried out by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) at the Kubwa Transmission Substation.
A public announcement issued to customers on Thursday, September 3, said the outage was necessary to enable TCN’s technical team to safely execute critical work at the transmission facility.
According to the notice, the maintenance forms part of TCN’s broader network upgrade and reliability improvement efforts.
The outage is affecting customers in several communities and commercial areas within Abuja and its environs.
The affected locations include Lower Usuma Dam, Dutse Alhaji, parts of Karasana, Arab Road, Red Bricks, Mopoi Barracks, Dei-Dei, Dei-Dei Building Materials Market and parts of Jiwa.
The notice also extended the affected area to surrounding communities within the network.
The electricity transmission company said the interruption was temporary and linked to the planned maintenance activity at the Kubwa transmission facility.
It assured affected customers that power supply would be restored at around 6:00 pm on Thursday, September 3, 2026, following the completion of the work.
The maintenance highlights the role of transmission infrastructure in the reliability of electricity supply, as work on transmission substations can require temporary interruptions to electricity distribution in connected areas.
The company appealed to customers for patience and understanding while the technical work is being completed.
